Lyrics

**Intro:**
Slide guitar mimicking wind across the plains
Steady bass drum like hoofbeats

**Verse 1:**
Up in the Panhandle where the sky goes on forever
Where the wheat fields wave like an ocean in bad weather
I've been walking these flatlands since I was seventeen
Looking for something in this wide-open scene

**Verse 2:**
The cattle are lowing as the storm clouds gather near
Lightning on the horizon, thunder in my ear
There's a lonesome in this country that gets into your bones
Out here in the Panhandle, you're never quite at home

**Chorus:**
Panhandle wind, blow my troubles away
Across these endless prairies where the buffalo used to play
I'm a long way from nowhere, but I'm right where I belong
With the Panhandle wind singing me this lonesome song

**Verse 3:**
Palo Duro Canyon cutting through this level land
Like the scars that life has carved with its rough hand
The sun sets red as fire over Amarillo town
Another day of searching, another sun goes down

**Verse 4:**
Met an old rancher at a crossroads by Dalhart
He said "Son, this land will either break you or claim your heart"
Now I understand what that old cowboy meant
The Panhandle takes everything till there's nothing left to spend

**Chorus:**
Panhandle wind, blow my troubles away
Across these endless prairies where the buffalo used to play
I'm a long way from nowhere, but I'm right where I belong
With the Panhandle wind singing me this lonesome song

**Solo:**
Howling guitar bends like wind through barbed wire
Double stops crying out across the plains
Building and swelling like an approaching storm

**Bridge:**
Some folks chase the city lights, some chase fortune and fame
But I'll take this empty country and its wild, untamed name
Where the wind never stops and the horizon never ends
Out here in the Panhandle, the wind's my only friend

**Final Chorus:**
Panhandle wind, you've shown me who I am
A rolling stone, a wandering man across this ancient land
I'm a long way from nowhere, and that's my saving grace
With the Panhandle wind forever in my face

**Outro:**
Guitar and wind sounds blend together
Fading into the vast emptiness of the plains
Final chord rings out and disappears
